California Mountains

Day 5 was thru the California Mountains.  What a ride.  Glad Kay was driving and she said okay 'cause the ride would have made her sick.  It was very narrow and winding not to say up and down. Maybe I'll post a video later would make a good video game.

As you can see the view was beautiful and on top of this mountain was this lake, next picture.

Since it was an early night we stayed for the entire show and had a great time in Modesto.  Fans were good, the venue was interesting, the sound was good and we met some new friends.

Onward we go.  Until later.

US Highway 50 --- Day 4

The day started in Ely, Nevada with a fun sign.

We drove across desert land with no services for food, gasoline or cell service.  We had lots of snacks and we gased up in Ely and headed on our way.  We were told of a shoe tree along Highway 50 so we stopped to look at it, pretty funny.  Hundreds of shoes hanging from this tree.

My navigating skills weren't to good as we made a wrong turn in Reno, but we finally got straight and arrived in good time.  Kay called our friends, Natasha & Gerry  we knew in Saudi who live in Reno now and we got together for dinner and then on to our first Split Lip Rayfield show of the Birthday Road Tripp.

Across Utah

Got a much earlier start today, after breakfast at the hotel we were on the road by 10 am.

Driving thru the San Rafael Reef was another beautiful sight.

San Rafael

Driving across Utah was again pretty uneventful, we did top off the gasoline tank before heading into the Seviery Desert, no towns or gas stations in this area.

Crossed the Nevada border and got to our hotel very early to rest up for the Day 4 of the

Thru the Mountains

Our day started with getting the windshield replaced.  We had a very friendly man, Miguel, doing the work.  It only took him about an hour but we still got a later start leaving Pueblo, Colorado about 12:30.

Thanks Miguel

This day lead us through the moutains of Colorado and Utah, didn't get a very good picture of the best scene of the mountains, but believe me they were beautiful.  It was slower driving for me.

Hittin' the Road

Day 1 - Friday, August 6

We are headed out this morning for our Birthday Road "Tripp and to follow SLR on their summer tour with the Reverand Horton Heat.  Kay arrived yesterday evening and we loaded up my stuff and got on the road about 9:15 this morning.

We stopped at a Historial marker to check out the Santa Fe Trail in western Kansas.

The drive has been good down Highway 50.  Kay started out driving then I took over just outside of Garden City, Kansas.  We met a mid size truck that apparently threw a rock and hit the wind shield making a small crack in the left side, which then started spreading across.  We have an appointment in the morning to have the windshield replaced.

Onward into Colorado

Saw some lightning and rain clouds and even a rainbow, but no rain as we make it into Pueblo, Colorado for the night.  Until tomorrow.

Getting Ready

The hotel reservations are all made and now it's time to decide what to take.  I'm thinking comfortable and fexible.  Shoes, not to many, T-shirts, jeans, shorts, simple dresses and skirts.  Probably won't hit any beaches but the swimsuit will go for all those evenings at the hotels.

I'm also packing a small ice chest and a snack tub for the car, hoping to cut down on eating fast food all the way.  Don't want to forget the sunglasses and extra eye glasses just in case something happens, have to have them to see.

Of course the computer will go as well as my cameras, books, crossword puzzle book and needlework.  I'm into making crochet fingerless gloves right now so that will be my needlework project in the car.

Road "Tripp" projects

Will need totoes and bags to carry all the camera, tablets, pens and etc. to the venues, but which ones.  Besides I will need something to carry stuff back to the hotel.

Money and credit cards.

And before I go, while doing final preparation have Sadie & Milo here.

Road "Tripp"

Friday, July 30, 2010

This Friday, August 6, 2010, I will be starting a road trip with my twin sister, Kay.  We will be heading west to see the country, visit with some family and friends along the way and to follow, Split Lip Rayfield (SLR) on part of their ' 2010 Summer Tour with the Reverend. ' (Horton Heat).

SLR (www.splitliprayfield.com) is on the road now heading north and into Canada and the great NorthWest where they will be joining Hillstomp (http://www.hillstomp.com/) and the Reverend Horton Heat http://www.reverendhortonheat.com/).  Our first show will be at the Knitting Factory in Reno, Nevada on Monday, August 9.

Being a first time Blogger, I hope I can figure this all out and keep a journal for myself.  Since August 13 is our birthday and our maiden name is Tripp, we decided to do this.  So, if you want, follow us on the road for our ' 2010 Birthday Road "Tripp" '
